FuturCrop is a software that automatically monitors the biological development of 179 pests in more than 280 crops, reducing the risk of pest damage, anticipating their development, optimising and reducing pest control treatments. The software provides important economic savings for farmers and companies, while facilitating the development of a more sustainable agriculture. The programme also allows the register of catches, damage and treatments carried out via mobile phone or PC.
Climatic conditions are determining factors in the biological development of pests, which need certain variables such as temperature, humidity, luminosity, etc. to change from one stage of their bilogical development to another. Usually, the period between phases in the development of insects was established in terms of days.
But nowadays, the increassing in temperature means that the average time could be reduced by half. The spider mite, for example, from the egg stage to the reproductive stage, takes 9 to 14 days to complete its life cycle, when the temperature is 25 °C. The problem is that an increase of 5°C causes its life cycle to be shortened to 6 or 7 days. That's the reason quite often pets are disvered when it is late to act. Without an automatic control system, it is not possible to carry out efficient monitoring and treatments, in order to know when the pest is most vulnerable to treatments.
Random and repetitive preventive treatments, or the indiscriminate application of insecticides causes pests to become resistant to the chemicals used. But as the treatment has progressively less effect, the number of applications and doses are usually increased. But increasing the number of repeated applications of insecticide does not control the pest more effectively, but leads to a higher incidence of resistant individuals, and finally the insecticide has no effect in reducing the pest population. This is because the application of more treatments in succession accentuates the elimination of susceptible insects, which may dilute the resistance genes.

The risk of major crop losses is greatly reduced when constant monitoring is carried out and treatments are done at the pest's most vulnerable stage. FuturCrop reduced the use of chemical insecticides by at least 30% in tests carried out under our supervision,. We also found a reduction of up to 45.26%, depending on the type of crop and the actions carried out. On the other hand, the reduction in the use of bio-pesticides is significantly higher, averaging over 40%.
